What We Do

We are dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Below are examples of activities listed in our three main areas of projects.

Promoting Patriotism

  • Support of the local Veterans Transition Center
  • Support Wreaths Across America and participation in wreath-laying ceremony
  • Participate in local parades on patriotic holidays
  • Participate in naturalization and U.S. flag retirement ceremonies
  • Participate in the Anniversary of the Battle of Colson’s Mill ceremony

Our chapter participated in a Veteran’s Honor Flight.

Every Memorial Day weekend we place flags on many of the secluded graves of our local American Revolutionary War Patriots.

Our chapter celebrates our country’s birthday by participating in the Oakboro Fourth of July Parade!

Historic Preservation

  • Mark graves of local American Revolutionary War Patriots
  • Support the National Society for the Preservation of NSDAR buildings
  • Participate in local historic programs, tours, and events

Yadkin River Patriots Chapter, NSDAR, attended the dedication ceremony in New London, North Carolina, for a monument honoring American Revolutionary War Patriot Thomas Biles.

Cleaning and repairing grave markers and monuments is just one of the ways we preserve our history and heritage.

DAR National Headquarters is one of the largest buildings owned and managed by women. It is the only monument in Washington, D.C. that is dedicated to the American Revolution.

Education

  • Provide materials for Constitution Week to local schools
  • Participate in Bells Across America on September 17 to honor the signing of the U. S. Constitution
  • Sponsor American History Essay & Video Contests for students in fifth to eighth grades
  • Sponsor Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Awards to cadets in high schools
  • Sponsor DAR Good Citizens Essays for high school seniors
  • Support Crossnore Communities for Children

Our chapter presented a JROTC Award to a local high school senior.

Our chapter adopted a cottage on the Crossnore Communities for Children campus and supports the students with birthday, Christmas, and graduation gifts and parties.

We participate in the Bells Across America event during Constitution Week.
